How we look after your details

What MostlyCloudy Ltd collects through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated 4 October 2026

The short version

  • We collect what you type into our forms, and we count visits to see which pages people use.
  • We use Google Analytics for visit statistics only. It sets a cookie, and you can turn it off on this page.
  • We use your form details to contact you about MostlyCloudy.
  • We never sell your details. We only use advertising cookies if you allow them.
  • Email info@mostlycloudy.co.uk to see, correct or delete what we hold.

Who we are

MostlyCloudy Ltd runs this website and decides how the details you give us are used. In data protection law, that makes us the controller.

We’re registered in England and Wales, company number 16564773, at 18 Armstead Road, Pendeford, Wolverhampton, England, WV9 5RF. For anything in this policy, email info@mostlycloudy.co.uk.

This policy covers this website: the Apply for access form, the free tools and The Splice. If your company uses MostlyCloudy, the data in your account is covered by your customer agreement.

What we collect

When you apply for access

Your first and last name, company name, email address, phone number, your trade and your team size, office and site. If you answer the biggest challenge question, we get that too. If you’ve allowed ad cookies, we also send a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address and phone number to the ad networks you allowed, so they can tell us an application came from one of their ads.

When you use the free tools

The tools work in your browser. We don’t receive the documents you build or the files you open.

When you play The Splice

When you finish a game, the name, company and trade you enter are saved on our server with your score and shown on the public leaderboard, which also ranks companies by their best score. You don’t need an email to play. A copy also stays in your browser. We also keep a picture of your score card, so a result you share on LinkedIn can show it. To take your name off the leaderboard, email info@mostlycloudy.co.uk. If you claim a Splice Cup prize, we also receive your email address and whether you want MostlyCloudy news. We use it only to arrange the prize, and send news only if you ticked the box. The site and the game also count visits, games played, shares and applications, with no names or IP addresses. Each count carries a random id for that browser tab’s visit, which your browser deletes when you close the tab.

When you visit

When you send a form, our server records your IP address to stop spam and repeat submissions. Like most websites, it also keeps standard visit logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested.

We also record where on each page people click, how far they scroll and how long the page is on screen, so we can see which parts of the site work. Nothing you type is recorded, and there’s no name, cookie or IP address. It’s kept on our own server for 13 months. Turning off visit counting or statistics on this page stops it too.

We also count which free tools are used, how much of the trailer is watched, how far people get in The Splice and which questions of the apply form they reach (never what’s typed), how fast each page loads and when a page breaks. There’s no name or IP address in any of it.

How we use it

To call you about your application and, if you join, to set up your account.

Lawful basisContract: steps you’ve asked us to take before you sign up

To keep the website secure and stop spam.

Lawful basisLegitimate interests: protecting our website and forms

We don’t use your details for marketing unless you’ve agreed to it, and we never sell them.

Who we share it with

We keep applications on our own servers in the UK and send email through our own mail server. The company that hosts our servers stores this data for us and can’t use it for anything else.

Google runs Google Analytics for us. Your browser sends it the pages you visit, the kind of device you use and your IP address, and Google may handle this outside the UK. We have turned off Google signals, data sharing and advertising features, so it is only used to give us visit statistics.

If you allow advertising cookies, Google, LinkedIn, Meta and TikTok receive the pages you visit and an ID from the cookie in your browser, so they can show you our ads and measure them.

We’ll only pass your details to anyone else if the law requires it, for example because of a court order.

Some parts of the site load from other services. Our fonts come from Google Fonts, and some free tools load code from Cloudflare and jsDelivr and text recognition data from Project Naptha. Your browser connects to these services directly, so they can see your IP address. They may be outside the UK.

How long we keep it

Applications
If you become a customer, for as long as you’re a customer. If not, we delete your application 12 months after you sent it.
Server logs
Deleted after 30 days.
Your cookie choice
Kept in your browser for 12 months, then we ask again. We also keep a record of each choice, with a random ID and no name or IP address, for two years.
Heatmap data
13 months.
The Splice scores
Kept while the game is running, unless you ask us to remove yours sooner.
The Splice score cards
Deleted after 90 days.

Cookies

We only use advertising cookies if you allow them, and we never sell your details.

We use Google Analytics to see which pages people reach, where they came from and how long they stayed. It sets a cookie on your device. We use it only for statistics about how the site is used, never for advertising. You can turn it off here at any time, which also clears the cookies it has already set.

If you visit from outside the UK, we only use Google Analytics if you allow it.

Advertising cookies. If you tap Allow all, or switch them on under Choose, Google, LinkedIn, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok can set cookies on this site. They use them to show you MostlyCloudy ads on their sites and apps, and to tell us how many people applied after seeing an ad. Nothing from them loads until you allow it. Each company handles this under its own privacy policy, and may handle it outside the UK. You can change your choice at any time under Cookies at the bottom of every page. Turning a company off deletes the cookies it set on this site.

Turn Google Analytics off

We count visits so we know which pages people reach and which ones they never find. A visit holds the page, where it came from, the kind of device, and a random number for that browser tab which your browser throws away when the tab closes. There is no name, no email, no IP address and nothing that follows you to another website. The counts are kept on our own server and are not shared with anyone.

If you would rather not be counted, this turns it off for this browser:

Stop counting my visits

Some pages save things in your browser so they’re still there next time: the team size you pick on the pricing page, the lines in a quote you’re building, and your scores in The Splice. This stays on your device and isn’t sent to us. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • See the details we hold about you
  • Correct anything that’s wrong
  • Delete your details
  • Limit how we use them
  • Object to how we use them
  • Give you a copy to take elsewhere

Email us and we’ll reply within one month. It’s free.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your details, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your details, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
